The PapaLani gang at the Volcano National Park Winery! In between Nikki and I are Natasha and Darren. They’re from Toronto, and they joined the farm a couple weeks ago. The wines we sampled were Pinot Noir, Symphony Dry, Volcano Red, Symphony Mele, Volcano Blush, Hawaiian Guava Grape and Macadamia Nut Honey. It was a wonderful way to start our day at Volcano ;)
This is a photo of a lava tube, taken Saturday at Volcano National Park. The city itself is called Volcano- how cool! Sam’s last day is December 10th so Nikki promised to take us to the park before she heads back to the mainland.
This was taken this past Sunday, at the local beach in Pahoa…my new favorite city on The Big Island. The vibe of the town was so cool. There were a lot of younger-ish people, all with their own unique style and story. The beach had a drum circle, jugglers, bonfires, tight rope walkers, snorkelers, skim boarders, guitarists, etc! Why has it taken me so long to stumble upon this wonderful, exciting community of a place?! This boy from South Africa that Sam and I met went out for a swim and came back with this fish. It was a beautiful Ono fish, although this photo doesn’t show it. I actually had some Ono the other day, Nikki took us out for some yummy, good ole fish and chips! Other than that, I’m doing so well! Sam is only here for another week, so we are trying to do as much as we can until she leaves. Nikki is taking us to Volcano National Park this Saturday for her final hoorah!!! Much love!!!
Pick’n Coffee!!!! Sam and I have been picking coffee the past three days (Mon, Tues, Wed) at Nikki’s boyfriend’s farm. We decided to work three 8 hour days so that we could enjoy a lonnnng (much needed) four day weekend! We are planning on going to Linda’s house for her annual Thanksgiving potluck- we are bringing lilikoi (passion fruit) juice and a big kale salad. Dinner starts at 2pm and afterwards, I’ll be spending my evening down the road at my other WWOOFer friends farm for their Thanksgiving festivities. Let the fun begin! HAPPY THANKSGIVING :) <3
This is a Jackson Chameleon climbing up a coffee tree! Sam found him while we were picking yesterday, and again today.
This was taken at Kealakekua Bay. Thought I would share some eye candy today- hope everyone had a wonderful weekend :)
Here is a photo of the property taken from the main road, Mamalahoa Hwy. One day, some WWOOFer friends that I have made (that live approximately a mile down the road) asked me how far of a walk it took me to reach the highway. I looked at them and answered, “Uhh, about 3 seconds?” lol. They have about a mile hike up the mountain before they reach the main highway. I didn’t realize how fortunate I was to be located directly off Mamalahoa until I talked with them. Other than that, today has been such a wonderful day so far! Sam and I caught the bus at 10:00 this morning and headed south for once to Naalehu (near South Point). Even though we were only about 20 minutes away, the environment and the energy was completely different- everything was SO incredibly GREEN! There were hills upon hills- we could see cows grazing in the distance, it was breathtaking!
This is a view of the property taken from our catchment tank. The portion of the house on the left is the vacation rental, and the portion to the right is where Nikki stays. The dark circular thing in the distance is the catchment tank that the homes get their water from, and then of course you can see the main garden in the very front.
